Sight & Hearing Services
Saving Sight formerly “Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation” renamed on December 1, 2013. The Rolla Lions Club has been a major supporter of the Lions Eye Bank and more recently, Saving Sight, formerly known as the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation which includes the Lions Eye Bank. We have helped fund these organizations with sizable donations from the beginning. We have also made major efforts to secure signed eye donor cards from both within and outside the club. We have also provided transportation of eye tissue from Rolla. Saving Sight is the major sight project of both Missouri Lions and the Rolla Lions Club. Dedicated to the preservation and restoration of sight; to diligently serving the people in our area first, then aiding those in other states and countries; to finding the causes and cures of blinding eye diseases through scientific research; to preserving sight through eye care programs, and making sight restoration possible through eye banking. The Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation is the major sight project of both Missouri Lions and the Rolla Lions Club.
The Missouri Lions Hearing Program
The Missouri Lions Hearing Program provides testing and hearing aids for individuals with hearing problems in our communities.
Used Eyeglasses Collection
The Lions collect used eyeglasses for recycling. Contributions can be made at collection boxes throughout the community.
Mid South Lions Sight & Hearing Service
The Mid-South Lions Sight and Hearing Service provides primary sight and hearing care to indigent persons from Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, and west Tennessee at no charge to the patient. Most patients are seen at either the Methodist Hospital-Central or the LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis Tennessee. There is a satellite location in Rolla, MO. The Rolla Lions Club has been an active member of the Service for a number of years providing both financial support and patients, usually at least three or four at any given time.
Leader Dogs for the Blind
Leader Dogs for the Blind has been a project of the Rolla Lions Club and the Missouri Lions for many years. Dedicated to enhancing the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals. Since 1939, we have been providing highly trained Leader Dogs. Today, our services include the Accelerated Mobility Program, technology training, and other personal education skills. The Club has provided financial support for this organization for over fifteen years. We have also, as needed, utilized their services by sponsoring those blind members of our community who wanted the additional mobility made possible by a Leader Dog to the School in Rochester Michigan.
